Our Story & Testimonials

Twenty years ago, BCCA was a small school but the dedication to do the best for their students was always present.  At that time, this meant funneling resources to best suit the needs of the student body:  whether by tailoring extracurricular activities around student interests or by bringing in part-time teachers for special areas of study.  The school also provided me with a safe environment to learn leadership skills and confidence.  

Growing up, I had a robust Christian upbringing:  wonderful parents, a godly home, and a loving church family.  To some, it may seem that Christian school would have been overkill or unnecessary but that was not my experience.  At BCCA, I gained valuable exposure to ideas of apologetics and worldview. But perhaps what I treasure the most is the ecumenical harmony I experienced at BCCA as friends from different backgrounds came together to learn from and learn together with one another.

Today, I work as an optometrist and BCCA was where my interest in the career began to take shape.  We had been asked to research a career path and the encouraging words of my teacher, “I think you would be good at this,” are part of what helped me pursue the profession I love.  

Christian education took sacrifice, dedication, and hard work- especially from the people around me: my parents, my teachers, and the school community at large.  Together, with the Lord’s blessing those investments have built BCCA into the caring and dynamic school, it is today.  I look forward to seeing how this harvest will multiply in this upcoming phase of growth and development.

One of my favourite things about BCCA is the teachers. They have been a big part of my life ever since I started attending school. Not only do they teach, but they also really care and encourage us to try everything, because they know God gave us all potential. In the future, I would like to become a teacher also and be a light to those around me, just like my teachers were to me.

In 2016, my mom got diagnosed with a severe brain tumor. The news had hit me so hard that I couldn’t seem to think straight. Was this really happening? When the ambulance showed up at my door, they told my siblings and I that my mom was going to be okay and that there was nothing to worry about. I prayed day and night that they would be right. The school was a big part of my life during those hard times. Other parents that had kids attending BCCA, would make our food and tried to help in any way possible. Many people kept my mom in their prayers, even though some of them didn’t even know her. As the oldest sibling, I felt a weight of responsibility on my shoulders, every day, but at school, I would tend to forget everything that was going on in my life at that moment, and I was able to just have fun. After 3 months of being in the hospital, my mom recovered and life goes on. My youngest brother is now in Kindergarten and I am now in high school. BCCA was and still is like my second home. I couldn’t imagine my life without it. Life is full of struggles and hardships and to have a community that cares and wants to help, is a blessing.

As the years passed, it became abundantly clear why God chose this school for us. It was not just for our children’s Christian education but the people/friendships that He divinely orchestrated. This happened through the relationships and the partnership of prayer with other families (mom’s prayer group). God wasn’t only concerned about the academics, but the whole person. Isaiah 45:3 puts it this way, “I will give you hidden treasures riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel who summons you by name.” So you can say that it was God who summoned us to this school. Those hidden treasures are the other families He brought into our lives through this school. That bond of friendship continues to this day and will continue long after the education of our children are complete.

In closing, there is a verse that was chosen for the 20th anniversary of BCCA. Psalm 115:1 “Not to us, Lord, not to us but to Your name be glory, because of Your love and faithfulness.” The Lord’s love and faithfulness are exactly what we have experienced throughout our almost 2 decades of partnering with BC Christian Academy.

Since then, I’ve come to see BCCA thrive through much adversity, many setbacks, and challenges, always with the same passion and commitment of the entire school community.  BCCA provides students with an amazing education, a strong foundation of faith, and the sense of compassion and caring that we need in this complex time.

The school was capable of giving me the correct education as well, I’ve always taken slightly longer to understand concepts, and I’ve worked better learning things one on one, which the school has been able to provide me with through the Learning Resource Center, and with the teachers that have been given to us through the years.

The school has also helped me through my spiritual life, I’ve been able to find out things about Jesus and myself, that I wouldn’t have been able to figure out on my own. Every day we would get together and read a few passages and break them down so we could figure out what they truly mean, and I remember when I was younger, we would have songs we would sing to help remember bible verses and messages the bible has.

The school has also given me plenty of experience with things such as art, music, drama, and sports. I have had the experience to try out things such as the handbells and the violin. I’ve also been able to act in plays the school has put on, helping me gain the confidence to be on stage in front of many people. There have also been sports clubs that I was able to join, even though I wasn’t the best, I was still able to join and help the team and overall have a great and fun experience.

I have absolutely loved being here at BCCA, they have been so understanding, supportive, and caring. Since I came here, I’ve had many opportunities that you can’t get anywhere else. I just want to thank BCCA, and the staff, for being able to be there to help me to discover and understand new things, helping me grow into the person I am today.

One of the most important things that inspires us is that there is no bullying at this school and everyone is so equal and is nicely treated by each other. In addition, since our son Wilson has mild autism, we do need support for special needs in the school. After talking with the Principle Ms. Peters, we found that BCCA provides advanced support for special needs children, and they really concerned about the issues for better-assisting children with special needs background. We think BCCA is the school that could provide the best service and learning environment for Wilson. Now, Wilson is in the kindergarten and he did very well in his first year at BCCA.

We received tremendous support and services from BCCA. First, Wilson’s teacher Mrs. Granados is very supportive in Wilson’s learning, development, and communication. She communicates with parents frequently and gives us great feedback in terms of how to better assist Wilson’s behavior and learning practice. Second, we received extra support from the teachers for special needs children. Ms. Jasmine is the special needs teacher for Wilson. She has a master’s degree in special needs and currently is a teaching assistant for Wilson in the school. She communicated with our behavior consultant, behavior interventionist, and language therapist effectively, and reported Wilson’s situations timely. So we could develop our program for ABA based on her observations and suggestions. Third, the Kids Club is very helpful. It provides extra longer time for parents who work far away. It not only takes care of every kid, but also provides extensive learning curriculum for kids to advance their skills, knowledge and behavior.

Finally, BCCA provides a very warm, healthy, and religious environment for the whole family to engage in multiple activities comfortably. We participated in the volunteer activities and got to know people. We also sent Wilson to the basketball club, from which Wilson finds his interest and makes lots of friends in the club. We admire the school’s religious culture and we think all this support and service are an integral part of the school’s culture with warm, healthy, and love.

Now, we could clearly see a great improvement from Wilson. He made a lot of friends in school and became more communicative. We are particularly happy to see Wilson could participate into the Christmas concert and well achieved the performance. We want Wilson to participate more in extra-curriculum activities and better integrate into his next stage in Grade 1!

We really appreciate what BCCA offers for us. God blessed Wilson and us. We thank BCCA offer this supportive, equal and “no bullying” learning environment for Wilson. We also thank BCCA have so many excellent individuals in taking care of Wilson and other students with special needs. We want to thank Ms. G and Ms. Jasmine’s direct support for providing Wilson a safe, comfort and warm environment for his development and growth. We thank Ms. Peters, who provide us this great opportunity enabling us to get involved in this wonderful school. We thank Ms. Theresa Lee for her special care for Wilson in the Kids Club. We thank Kevin Luong’s behavior training for Wilson. There are too many people need to be mentioned, but we appreciate every individual in the school for providing us this support and for making Wilson’s improvement!

Before coming to Canada, we had a good life. We were always surrounded by family and friends, had good jobs, and achieved our dreams. But, something did not feel right for our children. We wanted a good future for them, and Canada seemed like the right choice.

Of course, when we got here, it was a big change. We were not used to being so vulnerable. We were starting again, from zero, no family, few friends, and did not know how exactly we were going to succeed. We did not speak English, but BCCA accepted us the way we were. They welcomed us in, we met with the principal, the staff was very understanding and helpful.

My older daughter’s first teacher spent a lot of time helping her and making sure that my daughter understood what was going on.

That first year at BCCA, at Christmas, we received a big package from the school with everything that we needed: food, and presents for the girls. We were amazed to see that someone was thinking of us. We were new here, but BCCA found a way to make us feel loved and worth something.

Over the years, BCCA has helped us in various ways: we were supported financially when my husband and I did not have jobs. Two years ago, I injured my knee and could no longer do the work I used to do. BCCA was willing to step up and continue to support our family through the tough times.

We really feel that we are a part of a big family here at BCCA. The community was so welcoming and open to me, through their smiles, good talks, and the most important, their prayers. I have made some really good friends here, and I value that so deeply in my heart.

BCCA has taught me that everything is possible. Even when you feel like there is nothing you can do in your situation, God always has a plan. For my life, God’s plan was BCCA.

Sawyer looked forward to seeing Ms. Suk Ja in the early mornings when he arrived for daycare. We as parents are looking forward to having our other son start with the infant toddler program in January 2019. Sawyer’s class and teachers were very thoughtful and kind to our family when we were expecting our second son. They even made Sawyer’s new little brother the sweetest gift!

We have felt blessed by the BCCA Kids Club teachers and staff and we are happy we have found such a great place for our children to spend time and learn.

JKC has been like a second home for our son and we know that when he is there, he is not only learning and growing as a student, but is being cared for and loved as if he were at home. We are thankful and grateful for all the patience, kindness, understanding, and love that each one of the JKC staff members have shown our son and to our family. Deciding to send our son and to entrust him into the care of the preschool program at BCCA was definitely the right decision and one that we are incredibly happy that we made.

Knowing that BCCA is rooted and established by a divine love gives us peace and assurance that our child is learning scripture and truth that will be hidden in her heart forever and she is equipped for the future she will face. We enjoyed the transition to preschool so much that we applied our toddler for daycare a few days a week. We’ve only been participating at BCCA for a few months but their impact has overflowed onto our family and home life.

The newsletters everything from a whole monthly schedule with what the kids accomplished to photos and videos of the kids having fun. Our son Krishtegh has learned so much since we have enrolled him at KC and I expect for him to keep learning as he moves up in class. We look forward to enrol our daughter (Keshika) at KC when she turns 3. Thank you KC Staff!
