The Strategic Planning Committee – September Update

The Strategic Planning Committee has been working on getting a lease extension for our existing building. We were hoping to get a 5-year lease extension but unfortunately were only able to get a 2-year extension at this time. Our lease now extends to June 2019. We will continue working on a further extension to take us to the time when we will know where our permanent location will be in the Burke Mountain area.

The Vision Planning work by the city of Coquitlam on NorthWest Burke Mountain is still moving forward (this is where BCCA owns 9.6 acres at Coast Meridian and Hazel) and is expected to be completed by January 2017. This Vision Planning work needs to be completed before the city can begin the NCP (Neighbourhood Community Plan) and determine the permissible zoning for our property. Our property presently has an option agreement that may be executed at the end of 2017. If executed we can use this money to purchase another site or our existed site, should SD43 be willing to sell it to us.

The Strategic Planning Committee is working towards having a face-to-face meeting with the SD43 Trustees later this fall to express our desire to purchase the existing school site as well as address any myths or other concerns they have.

What we have learnt from SD43 is they cannot consider the sale of any property until they have completed their report for a master strategic plan for the district, which involves determining what they will do with their excess properties. One thing they made clear to us is that they cannot sell any property unless the revenue received from the sale is linked to a future development project by the district.

As always, we covet your prayers as we continue negotiating with SD43 and work with the Coquitlam City Planning Dept. Also, pray as we investigate other potential properties in the Burke Mountain area which God may be directing us to, in order to establish a permanent home for BCCA.
